My art teaching philosophy in the fewest words possible has everything to do with the students. I want my students to have choice, passion, and most importantly to feel safe in my classroom. I firmly believe that it is the teacher's responsibility to create a community in their classroom, where students feel safe to open up and put themselves into their artwork without fear of invalidation or judgement. In some ways knowing and putting them first can become more important than running a "perfect" lesson.
This collage includes pins from Pinterest that I have saved throughout my education towards becoming an art teacher. These pins represent my goals as a teacher. Some are teaching techniques I would love to incorporate, fun project ideas, classroom decoration for a fun environment, and most importantly techniques that i think i could use to grow close and create that safe community with my students.
I also would love to be unique in my teaching style, I want my students to try projects that may be a little unorthodox. For example, one of the pins that a include in my collage is of eggs shells filled with paint. I think that if I have rowdier class, I could take them outside and we could get some anger and pent up energy out and create a class piece of artwork from throwing these eggs at a canvas.
Last of all, I am wanting to work toward the future with my students, not only does this include talking about current issues, but also working with current technology. This is why the piece I made for this reflection is a digital piece of artwork. I used Adobe Spark and Paint 3D for this and these are application my future students could benefit from especially since kids these days are so naturally tech savvy.
