QUALITY STANDARD I
Teachers demonstrate mastery of and pedagogical expertise in the content they teach. The elementary teacher is an expert in literacy and mathematics and is knowledgeable in all other content that he or she teachers (e.g., science, social studies, arts, physical education, or world languages). The secondary teacher has knowledge of literacy and mathematics and is an expert in his or her content endorsement area(s).
ELEMENT A
Teachers provide instruction that is aligned with the Colorado Academic Standards, their District’s organized plan of instruction, and the individual needs of their students.
REASONING STATEMENT
This is an example of a lesson plan that I might hand-craft with the intent of aligning my instruction with the Colorado Academic Standards. This particular lesson plan was adapted so that a classroom with diverse needs could succeed; including ELL learners, and several types of neurodivergence.
ARTIFACT 1
ELEMENT C
Teachers develop and implement lessons that connect to a variety of content areas/disciplines and emphasize literacy and mathematical practices.
REASONING STATEMENT
I created a critique lesson in EDUC 350/386 and in order to facilitate a successful gallery walk, I had my students write a brief artist statement so that when their peers viewed their artwork, they could understand the artist's story and/or intent. This assignment emphasizes literacy because it asks students to write out their thoughts about their art in a cohesive manner.
